Leenie, I love your wrapup! I couldn't resist the cover of The House in the Hedge. I loved The Light Eaters, and especially Linda Lear's biography of Beatrix Potter, which gives us a much wider and deeper view of an amazing woman. I'm privileged to know Linda--met her through the Beatrix Potter Society. If you haven't read her book on Rachel Carson, you might consider that one. She pays the same deep, sympathetic attention to her subject there.
I will definitely add Linda Lear's Rachel Carson book to my TBR list! Silent Spring was a pivotal book for me as a teenager and I have always admired Ms. Carson.
My oh my! So many interesting books! I can never keep up with what everyone is reading. But I do take notes and love your detailed introductions Leenie! I am thinking of giving up on trying to choose what to read next and just drawing a title out of a hat! Like you, I love reading the ebooks when they are available. Thank you for all of these wonderful leads!
Yes, I try to use positive sounding words like 'eclectic' but it does rather boil down to me picking up the nearest book beside me when the urge to read hits. 🤣 I'm a big fan of audiobooks as well because I like doing things like knitting or drawing or watercolors and I find that my focus is better if there is a story playing. I had a long stint in the kitchen yesterday so I popped on the wireless headphones and hit play on a personal classic: Agatha Christie's MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. At day's end I flipped on the e-reader to the second book in Susan Wittig Albert's Crystal Cave trilogy, which I am thoroughly enjoying as I get to know Ruby in a richer, multifaceted way. It was a good reading day. 😊
Thanks. I’m in the middle of The Light Eaters and loving it. After reading this I ordered The Nature Fix and The House in the Hedge. Looking forward to getting them.
The Light Eaters is one that I will definitely re-read. I've been a plant lover all my life so I thought I had read most of what could be said about Kingdom Plantae. That book showed me that I had barely begun to scratch the surface. Paradigm-shifting for sure.
Thank you for these reviews and recommendations! I can't wait to dig in more. My Pluto conjunct Mercury tends to make me serially obsessed with topics and as I am just completing the Matthew Wood Institute of Herbalism year one program, plants and medicine making are of course a current obsession. 🌱🌱🌱
Oh, how exciting! Congratulations on completing Matthew's course. I have attended several of his lectures at International Herb Symposium (Wheaton College in Massachusettes) and at Green Comfort Herb School in Virginia. Ironically, I just got notification from one of my herbalist friends with an herb shop in a nearby town that she will be hosting Matthew for a class here in October. He will be teaching on his new book Shamanic Herbalism. I'm debating going. What an ally for learning Mercury conjunct Pluto must be. I expect you're a quick study who doesn't lack depth.
Oooooh! Such a lovely selection -- and I feel very honoured to be among such excellent company :). I have a copy of Linda Lear's book (I love Beatrix Potter - for so many reasons) and have dipped into it from time to time but I think it needs to come to the top of my winter TBR pile. I'm purposely choosing books that slow me down, these days - I'm a terrible gobbler of books and I want to correct that habit. So beautiful, complex language and/or beautiful, complex ideas are what I'm after. I've duly noted down your recommendations! Thanks again for the mention! xo
